How to Play MP4 Files in Wmp

The Winamp media player is a popular Windows product that supports many different audio formats, including MP4. When Winamp is installed on a computer, it should automatically associate itself with the MP4 file type. If for some reason it does not, it is still possible to open MP4 files in Winamp easily, and you can associate MP4 files with Winamp so they automatically open in Winamp whenever you click on them.

  1. Individual MP4 Files

      Launch Winamp.

      Go to "File" then "Play File."

      Select the MP4 file you want to play and click "Open" to begin playback.

    Associate all MP4 Files With Winamp

      Find any MP4 file in Windows and right-click on it. Go to "Open With" then "Choose Default Program" (In Windows XP select "Choose Program").

      Select Winamp from the list of recommended programs. If Winamp is not there, go to "Browse" and then navigate to "C:\program files\winamp" and double-click on "winamp.exe."

      Click "OK." Now whenever you double-click on an MP4 file, Winamp will be used to open it.
