Record your voice by pressing the "Record" button, which appears as a large red circle along the top of your "Audacity" window and speaking into your internal or external microphone. To stop recording, click the "Stop" button, which looks like a yellow square. If you want to load a previous voice recording in any audio format, click "File" on your Audacity menu bar and click "Open." Use the subsequent navigation menu to select your audio file.
Highlight the portion of your recording to which you want to apply effects. Just drag your mouse over the horizontal region directly beneath the timeline indicator. For example, if you want to add an echo to your voice at the 3-second mark and end the echo at the 6-second mark, drag your mouse over the region beginning where the time line reads "3.0," and end where the time line reads "6.0" If you want to apply the effect to your entire recording, you can skip this step.
Click "Effect" on the menu bar along the top of your screen and select an effect from the list. For example, click "Echo" to add an echo to your voice, or click "Reverse" to hear your recording backward. You can also eliminate background noise with "Noise Removal," make your voice sound higher or lower with "Change Pitch" or increase the presence of your voice with "Compressor." Explore many different effects to see what works best for you.
Apply precise specifications to your effect. Some effects, like "Reverse" or "Invert," will take effect as soon as you select them. Others, however, will require you to make decisions on how you would like to apply the effect. For example, if you click "Change Speed," an option window will appear with a horizontal slider. By dragging the slider to the left, your voice will become progressively slower. By dragging the slider to the right, your voice will become progressively faster. As you adjust the options for any effect, you can listen to the results by pressing the green "Play" button. When you finish adjusting the options to your liking, click "OK."
Apply additional effects to further manipulate your voice. You can add as many effects as you want using Audacity's "Effects" menu.
Save your voice recording by clicking "File" on the menu bar and choosing "Save Project." To convert your voice recording to an audio file, click "File" on the menu bar and choose "Export." Enter a name for your recording, choose a format from the list and click "Save."
