How to Identify Music Tracks Using Shazam

Finding out the artist and track title of songs you hear in nightclubs or on advertisements can be a very difficult task. The Shazam service and mobile phone application was developed specifically for this purpose. If you play Shazam the song, the service will check it against its database of tracks and tell you what it is called.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Shazam in the manner according to your phone's make and model. The application will start up, and is ready to work from the main screen.

    • 2

Press the “Tag Now” button which is usually in the top right hand corner of the application. The music playing must be the dominant sound the phone can pick up.

    • 3

Hold the phone’s microphone to the source of the sound. If Shazam picks up the sound, it will identify the sample by referencing its database, and show the track title, artist name and other options on the phone's screen.
