How to Make House Beats in Cubase

Steinberg Cubase is a musical production system that allows you to create music from musical ideas. Cubase is a great tool for creating house beats as the foundation to which you can add additional instruments and create an original music composition. Creating a house beat in Cubase involves selecting a loop from the library and using the beat designer and Groove Agent One to arrange the beat.

Instructions

  1. Slice A Loop

    • 1

Click "Start -- All Programs -- Cubase" to run Cubase. Select "New Project," click "OK" to create an empty project, choose the folder for the project and click "OK" to begin.

    • 2

Choose "Devices -- VST Instruments." Click the black space next to number "1" and select "Drum - Groove Agent ONE." Click "Create."

    • 3

Choose "Media -- Open MediaBay" from the menu. Click "+" on the left hand side of the window to open "VST Sound" and click to highlight a loop library, for example "Drum Loop Expansion 01." Highlight a specific loop on the right hand side of the window, for example "Tribal Loop 02 130." Drag the loop to the project workspace.

    • 4

Double click the loop you dragged to the workspace. Choose "Hitpoints" in the menu on the left and click the symbol next to "Edit Hitpoints." Click to create a bar under the "Sensitivity" label that indicates how the hitpoints will be created. Notice the hitpoint lines drawn on the right as you adjust the sensitivity. Hold the mouse button down inside each hitpoint to play it. Adjust the sensitivity bar until you are satisfied with the hitpoints.

    • 5

Click the symbol next to "Slice & Close" to create a new audio part with the hitpoints you've selected and to close the window. Click "OK" if you are asked to disable musical mode.
