How to Copy Programs & Files to a CD

You can copy programs and files to a CD using your computer. Both PC and Macintosh computers are capable of completing this task. All you need is a recordable CD, such as a CD-R, and a CD burner installed on your computer. A regular CD-R can hold 700 megabytes of memory when burned as a data CD.

  • Computer with CD burner
  • Blank CD-R

Instructions

  1. PC

    • 1

      Insert a blank recordable CD into your computer's CD burner.

      Select the option to "Burn Files to Data Disc" when presented with a list of choices.

      Click "Show Formatting Options" and choose the "Mastered" formatting option.

      Click "Next" and an empty burn folder will open.

      Drag the programs and files you want to copy to a CD into this burn folder.

      Click the "Burn to Disc" button inside of the burn folder when finished and the programs and files will be copied to the CD.

    Macintosh

      Click the Finder and then click "File." Choose "New Burn Folder."

      Open the new burn folder that appears and drag the programs and files you want to copy into it.

      Insert a blank recordable CD into your computer's CD burner.

      Click the "Burn" button inside of the burn folder and the programs and files will be copied to the CD.
