How to Hook Up an RCA Jack to a Headphone Jack

Connect the headphone output jack on your electronic audio devices to the RCA inputs on other electronics with a 1/8 inch-to-RCA adapter cable. Many electronic devices, such as MP3 players, computers and portable CD players, come equipped with a 1/8 inch headphone out jack, whereas many stereo receivers utilize RCA inputs and outputs. The 1/8 inch-to-RCA adapter cable transmits stereo signals from your device's headphone jack to the left and right channels on the other device when connected properly.

Connect the RCA ends of the adapter cable to the second device, such as a stereo receiver. Plug the white (left) male connector into the white female jack, and the red (right) male connector into the red female jack on the RCA "Input" port. The audio coming from the headphone out jack will now be routed through the inputs of the second device.
