The Advantages of Using a Multiprocessor With Cubase 5

Cubase 5 is a digital audio workstation developed by Steinberg. The application is able to record, arrange and edit digital and analog music in a single format. Because of the new technology that is introduced in Cubase 5, a computer running the application may benefit from using a multiprocessor.
  1. 64-Bit Support

    • Cubase 5 is the first iteration of the digital audio workstation to support 64-bit operating systems. Starting with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system (and now including the newer Windows 7), Cubase 5 has been able to increase the addressable memory from 2 GB to 1 terabyte (1 TB) this allows the workstation to support more tracks, plug-ins and samples from the library into a single track. Using a multiprocessing core allows users to play all of these tracks smoothly.

    The Latest VST Support

    • Cubase 5 allows users to work with VST (Virtual Studio Technology) instruments. The VST instrument is a virtual recreating of an instrument such as guitar, orchestral instruments, pianos, drums and synthesizers. Upon loading the virtual instrument into Cubase 5, the player is able to record patterns with the computer keyboard or a connected MIDI keyboard. Using a multiprocessor allows people to open many VST instruments at the same time. When playing back the created song, the VSTs will be able to play their patterns without the song skipping or freezing.

    New Mixing and Editing

    • Cubase 5 includes the new VariAudio vocal editing feature. VariAudio integrates both vocal editing and pitch alteration into a single interface. With the feature, users will be able to change individual notes in a vocal performance, as well as fix timing and intonation problems with the rest of the song. Computers with multiprocessors will benefit from VariAudio's ability to analyze the vocal melody and transcribe it into individual notes. The detected notes can be converted into MIDI notes, allowing the user to build new musical patterns and arrangement on top of the vocals.

    Built-In Plugins

    • Cubase 5 includes three new plugins that will run smoothly with the use of a multiprocessor. The LoopMash plugin is a VST that works with existing loops and beats to create new rhythms. The drums are loaded into the application, and LoopMash creates new "mash-ups" to create original and unique drum patterns. The Grove Agent ONE plugin is capable of drum sampling and shaping. The plugin features a custom library of drums created by Cubase and support for spliced loops and MPC imports.
