How to Put the Pulse Trigger on Drums

A pulse trigger enables your ordinary drum pad to pass electrical signals to an electronic drum console. With a pulse trigger, a drumstick's impact turns into an electrical signal and makes the drum pad electronic. This is a cheap alternative to purchasing an entire electronic drum console, and gives your setup a do-it-yourself feel.

Remove the drum head using the drum key, and place it aside. The trick is to take away the drum head's resonative quality because the pulse trigger will pick up all of the resulting vibrations, which doesn't result in a singular hit of the drum when processed by the module.

Stuff the drum shell with a small pillow or towels to take away the drum's vibrating quality. Place the Piezo transmitter on the underside center of the drum head using Sticky-Tac to keep it in place. The transmitter will convert the vibrations from the drum head to your drum module.

Connect the wiring attached to the Piezo transmitter to the female RCA receiver. This device will allow you to connect the sound from the electronic drum pad to the drum module. Test the pulse trigger by playing a few short hits on the drum pad.
