How did the band metallica get their name?

Metallica got its name from Ron Quintana, a friend of early band members Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield. Quintana was managing a band called Leather Charm, and he suggested the name "Metallica" to them, as he thought the name would look good on a t-shirt. Ulrich and Hetfield later adopted the name for their own band.
