Do you need rock band 1 if get a 2 set?

Yes, you need Rock Band 1 to play Rock Band 2. Rock Band 2 requires use of the MIDI drums and foot controller included with Rock Band 1, and is not compatible with the drums and foot controller included with the Rock Band 2 set.
