How did Evanescence start their band?
The band Evanescence began when singer and pianist Amy Lee met guitarist Ben Moody at a Christian summer camp in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1994. The pair began collaborating on music together shortly after. The duo recorded two EPs independently in 1998 and 1999. After struggling to find a record label, Lee sent recordings of several new tracks to Bigwig Enterprises executive Darrell Brown in 2002. Impressed with her voice, he contacted the duo and arranged a meeting in Los Angeles, offering them the opportunity to sign with Wind-Up Records, which they did and the duo became Evanescence and began work on their major-label debut.
