Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons founded The Red Hot Chili Peppers in Los Angeles in 1983. Irons and Slovak left shortly after and were replaced by Jack Sherman and Cliff Martinez. The group's self-titled debut album was released Aug. 10,1984.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold more than 55 million albums as of 2010. Eight songs have reached Billboard's Top 40.
The group has won six Grammy awards as of 2010. Four of the Grammys were for the 2006 album "Stadium Arcadium."
As of 2010, the band has two live albums, nine studio recorded albums and three compilation discs. The group has also created numerous music videos, singles and concert videos.
