Jimi Hendrix is known as one the of the best electric guitar players the world has ever seen, and his outlandish actions while on stage are still spoken about today. After teaching himself to play the electric guitar, Hendrix served for a short period of time in the United States military until he was discharged for playing it far too much. After military service, he left America to create a song called "Hey Joe" that topped the charts in London, then returned to the states to play at a music festival called Woodstock. Back in London again, Hendrix was found dead after a performance from an apparent sleeping pill and alcohol overdose.
Born in 1968 in Long Beach, California, Brad Nowell came to be famous for his band, Sublime. He had grown up loving music like that of the Circle Jerks, and in college he and a couple of other musicians started the band. Nowell started Skunk Records to distribute his music, and Sublime became a famous band within a few years with the song "Date Rape," which was a hit across the nation. In 1996, Nowell was found dead of an apparent heroin overdose just hours after he had spoken with his wife over the phone.
Born December 23, 1941, Timothy Hardin was known for his American folk music. He is best remembered for writing hits like "If I Were a Carpenter" and "Reason to Believe." Hardin, discovered in 1963, began his career recording for Columbia Records. By 1969, he was performing at the Woodstock Music Festival, singing "If I Were a Carpenter." By 1973, Hardin had released his ninth album, and his heroin addiction began to take over his life. He died of an overdose of heroin and morphine on December 29, 1980, six days after his birthday.
Born in Tacoma, Washington, on September 8, 1942, Brian Cole is famous as the bass player for the 1960s folk band The Association. As a founding member of the band, he was known for his excellent use of the bass guitar. The Association was one of the most popular bands of the 1960s, but its success came to a halt in in 1972 when Cole succumbed to his addiction. On August 2 of that year, Cole died of a drug overdose in Los Angeles.
