Ten Commandments of Metal Compilation

"Ten Commandments of Metal" is a 2010 album by Puerto Rican heavy metal band Dantesco. The album, released by Cruz Del Sur Music, is a compilation of cover songs originally performed by other artists, including songs by bands such as Black Sabbath, Metal Church and Rainbow.
  1. Dantesco

    • Dantesco is a heavy metal band from Cayey, Puerto Rico who specialize in a sub-genre of heavy metal known as "epic/doom metal," a style that's closely related to death metal. The members of the band are Ramon de Jesus on bass and acoustic/classical guitar, Erico la Bestia on vocals, guitarists Joel Carrasquillo and Dennis Torres, and on drums, Wampa. Prior to "The Ten Commandments of Metal," Dantesco released two studio albums, 2005's "De la Mano de la Muerte," and 2008's "Pagano."

    The Album

    • Unlike Dantesco's two previous studio albums, which relied on original compositions, "The Ten Commandments of Metal" features the band performing cover versions of songs from other artists. The bands covered are Candlemass, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Mercyful Fate, Sanctuary, Warlord, Savatage, Metal Church, Sorcerer and Manowar. Unlike the band's previous albums, which featured songs sung in Spanish, vocals on these cover songs are sung in English. "The Ten Commandments of Metal" was released on January 23, 2010.

    Track List

    • As the title suggests, "The Ten Commandments of Metal" features 10 cover versions of metal songs, including Black Sabbath's "Falling Off the Edge of The World," Manowar's "Blood of My Enemies," Warlord's "Deliver Us From Evil," Merciful Fate's "At the Sound of the Demon Bell" and "Queen in Black" by Sorcerer. The remaining songs are "The Dungeons Are Calling" by Savatage, "Darkness in Paradise" from Candlemass, Sanctuary's "Taste Revenge," Metal Church's "Beyond the Black" and Rainbow's "A Light in the Black."

    Subsequent Releases

    • In 2011, Dantesco released two albums. "Dantesco" is a collection of early demo recordings augmented by a few new tracks. "Seven Years of Battle" features several original compositions -- some with Spanish lyrics and some in English -- and one cover, a version of "The Dungeons Are Calling" by Savatage. A reviewer on the website The Metal Observer describes the band's sound as doom metal combined with "traditional heavy metal and even a faint whiff of that early- to mid-'80s power-metal sound."
