What type of operating system does a video game use?

A video game typically does not run on its own operating system. Instead, it runs on the operating system of the device used to play the game. For example, if the game is played on a personal computer, it will most likely run on Microsoft Windows or macOS. If it is played on a gaming console, it will run on whatever operating system that particular console uses. Some arcade games may have their custom operating system designed to run the specific games they offer. However, in general, video games rely on the underlying operating system of the hardware they are played on.
