Contact your local IATSE chapter and make contact with the membership coordinator. Although this article will show you the steps needed to join IATSE, be sure to contact your local for any additional information, forms and submitting instructions necessary as local chapters may require additional information.
Get your days. In order to join IATSE you are required to work a certain number of days in the job description that you are applying to membership for. In this case, in order to qualify for membership, as a Production Coordinator, you must have either thirty (30) paid union days or one hundred (100) paid non-union days as a Production Coordinator. The reality is that if you are not a union Production Coordinator, you will not be accepted as a union Production Coordinator. However, there are exceptions, as in the case where a Production Assistant gets promoted from within, but more than likely you will earn your days on non union shows.
Save your pay stubs. The pay stubs will demonstrate that you have had enough paid experience as a Production Coordinator to qualify for membership into local IATSE union. Personal checks will not suffice. They must be pay stubs from a proper payroll company.
Update your resume. This author has an article on how to create a Production Coordinator’s resume you can use as reference.
Make your application for membership. Once you have all of your paperwork organized, follow the instructions given by the membership services coordinator. They may require that you fax in your paperwork, mail it in or make a drop off to the local office.
