How to Register to be a Contestant on the Wheel of Fortune

The "Wheel of Fortune" game show made its debut in 1983, As of 2011, it claimed it had rewarded more than $190 million in cash and prizes. The main show is taped in California, and each year more than 10,000 people apply to be one of the three contestants. Each year, only about 600 of them actually get a chance to "spin the wheel." While those aren't good odds, there is no cost to register and hope you get the call.

      Fill out the official contestant audition form for a "Wheelmobile" event. The form is located on the "Wheel" website. The show occasionally holds try-outs in selected cities across the country. The contestants for the try-outs are selected at random from applications submitted for the Wheelmobile. Contestants must be at least 18, and can not be related to anyone working on the show or any affiliated company.

      Arrange to attend the Wheelmobile event if you are invited. The show does not cover costs to attend any qualifying event. You are also responsible for knowing when the events are held. Updates are posted at the official "Wheel' website.

      Attend the final audition if you make it past the screenings at the Wheelmobile event. The final test includes a 5-minute written test of basic knowledge, and a recreation of the actual game with puzzles to solve and a mini-wheel. The show staff will judge contestants based on the test and other impressions. Contestants are notified by mail if, and when, they can compete on the show.
