How to Find a Sponsor for a Child Actor

So your child wants to become an actor. He mimics every commercial he sees, practices lines from sitcoms and lands a part in every school production. You want him to follow his dreams but the cost of getting head shots done, a wardrobe for auditions and travel costs threaten to break the bank. What can you do? Getting someone to sponsor your child's acting ambitions can prevent you from having to dash your child's dreams.

Instructions

    • 1

List 15-20 independently owned area businesses that you want to approach to sponsor the child in an acting career. These businesses should be financially sound, perhaps sell a product or service that has to do with entertainment or children and are not corporate franchises. Determine ahead of time the name of the company owners and how their names are spelled.

    • 2

Compose a professional looking, one page letter introducing your child, his hopes and aspirations and include a photograph. Detail the child's resume, include all school plays, any print or tape work already done and any unique talents the child has such as karate or singing.

    • 3

Close the letter with a request for the company to sponsor the child's career costs. Outline approximately how much will be needed each year and ask for the company to commit in writing to underwrite some or all of the cost. Remind the company owner you will spread the word about his company's products and services every chance you get.

For those who decline and explain why, use that information to tailor your next batch of outgoing letters to even better explain the need for sponsorship. For example, if one company says the photo is too dark, take another one to attach to future letters.
