What Digital Channels Are in the Gainesville, Florida Area?

Gainesville is located in north central Florida and has public, private and subscription television services that are provided in high-definition format. The city has six primary television stations providing digital programming. Some of the stations have substations, bringing the total to 12. As of October 2010, three cable and satellite providers operate in Gainesville.
  1. Public Television

    • The University of Florida is located in Gainesville and has a public television station that broadcasts from the campus. This station's call letters are WUFT, and it is on channel 5. WUFT has programming on channels 5, 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3. The programming offered by these channels includes documentaries, cooking shows, dramas and comedies, local and national news, and children's shows, including cartoons and educational shows such as Sesame Street.

    Networks

    • NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox have affiliate stations in Gainesville. In addition to network programming, these stations provide local news. NBC is on channel 9; ABC operates on channels 20, 20.1 and 20.2; CBS broadcasts on channel 28; and Fox operates on channels 51 and 51.1. Channel 69, WACX, is a private station that broadcasts religious programming.

    Cable and Satellite

    • Gainesville residents and businesses can subscribe to cable television from Cox Communications and satellite service from DirectTV or DISH Network. Subscription television providers charge monthly or annual rates based on the number and types of channels that a subscriber wants. All of these channels are digitally broadcast and include local channels as well as the subscription lineup of channels.
