How did radio come to Nigeria?

Radio first came to Nigeria in the 1920s when the colonial government established the first radio station in Lagos. The station, called Radio Nigeria, was used primarily for government communication and propaganda, but it also began to broadcast educational and entertainment programs in the local languages. In the 1930s, the government expanded the reach of radio by opening additional stations in other major cities, and by the 1950s, radio had become a popular form of entertainment and information for many Nigerians. After Nigeria's independence in 1960, the government continued to expand the reach of radio, and by the 1970s, there were over 100 radio stations in the country. Today, radio remains an important part of the media landscape in Nigeria, and it is estimated that there are over 200 million radio listeners in the country.
