In many television programs and movies, the characters that carry out violent acts are the perceived as "good guys," which people that both children and adults are keen to copy. Despite people knowing the difference from right and wrong, television and movies convince people that violent actions can be justified.
With people seeing violence on a regular basis, they forget the impact and effects of violence. They may seem insensitive to people who have been victims of violence, seeing it as normal behavior. Violent characters are often unpunished, and cartoon characters often get up after violent acts and appear unharmed, creating the impression that violent actions are acceptable and that there are no consequences.
People can become scared after watching violent scenes. They may believe that they are likely to be a victim of violence and live in fear. Although there is danger in life, what is seen on television and in movies is often misleading and far from reality. Children may suffer from behavioral problems, nightmares and sleeping difficulties.
Some people can become entranced by television and movies, even though it's just acting and entirely made up. It's possible to become so absorbed that people are unable to realize if violence is real or not when a character attacks someone. Children still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, making it impossible for them to understand fact and fiction, while also becoming confused about what is and what isn't acceptable.
