Wash the face with cleanser, rinse and pat dry. Apply the astringent with the cotton ball in order to tighten pores. Follow with moisturizer when astringent is dry. An artist always starts with a clean canvas. Think of the face as the canvas. Dab concealer on any areas such as under the eyes and any blemishes that need hiding.
Choose a foundation that matches skin tone, blending colors if necessary. Apply the foundation with a sponge, making sure to blend well. There is a difference in how makeup appears under studio lights, florescent lights and sunlight. Foundation should be checked under the lights where the filming will be taking place in order to gauge how skin will appear on camera. Applying makeup in that lighting is an even better option. Be especially cautious under florescent lights, which amplify the green tones in skin.
Add a darker shade of foundation to the base foundation and blend, creating a contouring color. Blend a slight amount into the hollow of the cheeks and along the chin line up to the ear lobes. Use a foundation shade that is two to three times lighter than the foundation shade to highlight. Dab and blend this color into the shadowy areas under the lower lip and eyes.
Place loose face powder on to a large brush, tapping off excess. Lightly brush over the entire face. The powder will tone down any shine to the skin and also provide a base to apply the blush. The blush should be applied from the hairline down on the cheek, about halfway and gradually fading in order to appear more natural. Without adding any more powder, brush the loose powder brush over this area to soften the look.
Brush eyebrows and remove any stray hairs. Fill in brows with an eyebrow pencil, using delicate strokes. Apply a neutral shadow all over the lid and brow. Powdered shadow is best for television because it holds up better under the studio lights than cream shadow does. A second darker shade can be used to contour the eye, brushing into the crease of the lid to add depth. A small dot of a white or ivory shade blended under the brow highlights the eyes. Eyeliner should be applied across the entire top lid and on three-quarters of the bottom of the eye. Follow with a coating of mascara, being careful to avoid clumps. Brushing the lashes with an eyelash brush will help separate the lashes.
Outline lips with either a lipstick brush or pencil. Choose a shade that matches the lip color. This helps prevent the lipstick color from bleeding. Use a lip brush to apply lipstick over both lips. Blot lips with a tissue to remove any shine that the camera might pick up.
