Why is Oedipus tortured by the Furies in

Oedipus is not tortured by the Furies. The Furies are deities of vengeance who pursue those who have committed terrible crimes, but Oedipus is not guilty of any such crimes. He unwittingly killed his father and married his mother, but he did so unknowingly and without any malicious intent. The gods do punish Oedipus for his actions, but they do so by sending him into exile and causing him to lose his sight, not by sending the Furies after him.
