If you're running Windows, use the included installation disc to install the Korg USB MIDI Driver and Kontrol 49 Editor/Librarian software. Mac users do not have install the driver.
Connect one end of your USB cable to the port on the Kontrol 49. Connect the other end to an available port on your computer.
Switch the Kontrol 49 power switch to the "USB" position to power its keyboard using your computer's USB bus power. Alternatively, switch to "DC" if you wish to use the keyboard's included power supply.
Open your music creation software and load a virtual instrument. When used with compatible software, the Korg Kontrol 49 will automatically select the best control scheme for the selected virtual instrument. Play a few test notes to see if the Kontrol 49 triggers the software instrument.
If the keyboard does not trigger the software, make sure the MIDI channel of the Kontrol 49 matches the channel setting of your software. Refer to your software's manual to find out how to change these settings.
Change control assignments or create new assignments easily in most software programs by right-clicking the desired virtual control and selecting "Assign MIDI." Follow up by moving the desired control or pressing the desired button on the Kontrol 49. Refer to your software's manual for specific details and additional information on assigning MIDI.
