Consult an online database of television and movie production companies, which lists the past projects of these companies in addition to their contact information, such as phone numbers and addresses. One database, called IMDbPro, is available by subscription at the Internet Movie Database, imdb.com. Choose companies that produce sci-fi projects, or have produced projects similar to your script.
Write a query letter. Just like the script is a calling card for your writing talents, the query letter is a pitch to compel someone to read your completed sci-fi script. Include a log line, which expresses the concept of your script in one powerful sentence, and a brief, one-page overview of the story. Keep the query in the same tone as the script.
Personalize the query letter directly to each specific producer or production company that you target for your script. Mention any similarities between your script and any of the producer's or company's past projects. Call the producer or production company's office directly, if necessary, to find the name of the specific individual to whom you should send the query.
Send your query letter to your target producers or production companies, by mail or email. Be sure to follow any specific directions the targets give on how they wish to be contacted, whether in their online database listing, or when you call.
