Gather your modeling portfolio and ensure that you have placed your strongest photographs with the first several pages of the portfolio. If your portfolio has a wide variety of looks and styles, mix them up accordingly. Most designers will only flip through the first several pages of your portfolio, so make sure the designer can see how dynamic and versatile you are as a model.
Grab your tote bag and along with placing a change of clothes, pick two different types of shoes. You will want to have a pair of high heels as well as a pair of comfortable black flats. Designers will be usually ask you to walk, and if you are attending a go-see for a high-fashion designer you will need to wear you high heels, however, if you are not going to walk, a nice pair of flats will allow the designer to see your actual flat.
Prepare for the actual go-see by ensuring you do not wear heavy makeup. Always apply light makeup that is natural in color and tone. Wearing a neutral colored lip gloss and little-to-no eye makeup will allow the designer to see you in your natural form, which is very important. As a model, you are a blank canvas that the designer will then paint with his or her clothes and makeup. Never wear any perfume or deodorant that will leave residue, mainly because you may have to try on the designer’s clothing, and you do not want to leave a scent or residue on the clothing.
Leave your home early enough to arrive at the go-see at least ten-minutes prior to your scheduled time. This will show the designer that you are not only prompt but also excited. Have your portfolio already in your hand and great the designer with a genuine smile.
Engage the designer in light small talk, but make sure that you do not go overboard with talking, unless the designer is actively engaging you with conversation. Being too quite or too blunt can damage how the designer views you. Be prepared to wait, as go-sees can consist of a hundred models from various agencies.
