Improve your acting skills to get roles in commercials. Learning to act is best achieved with the assistance of a professional acting class.
Develop your knowledge of the TV industry. Actors who are serious about being cast for any roles--even in commercials--should know as much about the industry as possible.
Have fun with your characters. Acting in commercials is fun because you are paid to play different people. Explore different aspects of your personality by taking on new and unique personalities that allow you to enjoy different experiences. In one commercial, you may be a housewife, while in another you can be a silly clown or a dainty ballerina. It's really up to how open you are to new experiences as an actor.
Hire an agent to help you acquire more roles with better pay. Agents usually have strong connections that open doors to better roles with higher pay on a more frequent basis, which will make working as a commercial actor more fun and profitable. Agent fees vary, but are commonly about 10 percent of what the agent acquires for you.
Get a SAG Card. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) is an organization that all major film stars and other actors join. If you work as an extra and become acquainted with the assistant directors, you should be able to ask them about the availability of SAG vouchers.
Use your resume to get more work. Whether you have an agent or not, your job is to always stay alert for the next available casting call. There are thousands of hungry aspiring actors and actresses who are ready and willing to do anything for a part, so you must stay focused on working as often as possible to be ready for the next opportunity, no matter how small or large.
