How to Be an Extra on The Vampire Diaries

You don't have to earn a starring role to be on the popular television show "The Vampire Diaries." The show utilizes extras for nearly every episode to fill the background of the neighborhood bar, school, parties and gatherings, and other public settings. Much of the filming is completed in Covington, Georgia, which is convenient for those actors outside of Hollywood wanting an opportunity to be on a prime-time television show.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact an extras casting in Georgia and ask if they are casting for "The Vampire Diaries." As of April 2011, Cherrix Casting was holding an open casting call for extras for "The Vampire Diaries."

    • 2

Send your information to the casting agency. Write a letter to the casting agency and include your name, age, phone number, email address, height, weight and all clothing sizes. Attach a recent photo, or head shot of yourself with the letter and send it by mail to the casting agency. The agency will add you to its extras database and call you if you fit the bill.

    • 3

Gather work authorization documents. To sign up with an agency, you must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility form. You must present your original state driver's license or identification card, and a Social Security card or birth certificate. A U.S. passport is often acceptable, if you don't have an ID.

    • 4

Show up for work. If the extras casting agent secures a spot for you, you will receive a call from the extras casting director. The casting director will give you the time and place of filming, and also instruct you to bring your own wardrobe. You must drive yourself to the location. It is important to show up on time, preferably early, so give yourself plenty of time to get there.

    • 5

Check in with the extras casting director or assistant director in the designated check-in area. Fill out the work voucher with your name, Social Security number and check-in time. This voucher will keep track of your work hours and your pay. After the work day, check out with the same person and have him sign your voucher.
