Take a course or obtain a degree in acting if you are serious about pursuing acting as a professional career. Talented people may get roles without training, however, you will appear more experienced if you have some training. Learn as much as you can about acting online including "method" acting.

Create an acting resume listing any training and acting experience you have, whether it be local theater or bit parts in movies. It is crucial to have good photographs. Book a photographer who has experience in taking actor photos which typically consist of 8-by-10-inch black and white head shots.

    • 3

Visit local talent agencies to try and get yourself an agent. If you get an agent, he will tell you about upcoming auditions in your area and promote you as an actor. Do some research about agencies first to ensure they are legit, as there are scams that involve talent agencies taking advantage of people.

    • 4

Check out websites on the Internet that provide casting information so you will know about any auditions in your area. Call local TV stations to determine which agents or casting agencies they use to cast actors for the TV shows that are produced at those stations. Contact the agencies and ask how you can audition or be on a list to get informed about auditions.

Give it your all at auditions. Typically, you receive a portion of a script and some information about the character. Try to find an area where you can practice lines out loud. The trick is to be believable, so say the lines as if you would say them yourself in that situation. Often, you only get one chance so take risks. Be polite and professional at auditions to all staff involved.
