How to Make a Movie Extra Photo Portfolio

Working as a movie extra is one way for a young actor to get his foot in the door. Movies and television shows rely on extras to help bring scenes to life. No special credentials or training is required to work as a movie extra. Casting directors are interested in hiring extras in all shapes, sizes, and ages depending upon the particular scenes that are being shot. Working as an extra is a way to acquire experience on movie and television sets. The work also provides an opportunity to meet casting directors, talent agents and other actors.

Write a one-page resume. Document your previous experience as a movie extra as well as previous acting experiences. Describe your education, hobbies and interests. In addition to the photograph, the resume may help to catch the casting director's attention. Include your name, email address and telephone number.

Read the portfolio instructions carefully. Pay attention to the guidelines for submitting the portfolio. The details may vary in terms of the size of the photograph, the type of mailing envelope, and how to connect the resume and the photograph. Some directors prefer that the resume be written on the backside of the headshot. Also give special attention to the deadline for submitting the portfolio.

Write a short introductory note. Clip the note to the portfolio. The note may help to set you apart from all the other applicants who are interested in working as a movie interest.
