What Is a Ninja Kitten?

Despite the name, ninja kittens are not baby cats trained in martial arts and stealth, like their ancient Japanese counterparts. Ninja kittens and ninja cats are a popular culture creation using photos and videos of cats using their catlike reflexes. They are a mix of professionally created pieces sold on the marketplace and amateur creations done for enjoyment.
  1. Video

    • A ninja kitten video consists of a kitten attacking an unsuspecting owner or animal in a over-the-top or stealthy way. Video sites such as YouTube have many amateur videos featuring ninja kittens in action. The videos are meant to be funny and neither the kittens nor other animals are injured in the process. Often, the kittens perform acrobatic moves when they attack their prey. There are also videos featuring live-action actors with kitten heads superimposed on their bodies.

    Photos

    • Unlike the videos that feature a complete clip of the kitten, a ninja kitten photo is either a regular or altered photo accompanied by a caption. Altered photos often include some type of ninja gear or weaponry created using image software. The captions are meant to be funny, often in the vein of Chuck Norris jokes.

    Toys and Apparel

    • As ninja kittens became more popular, manufacturers began creating plush toys, T-shirts and other apparel featuring ninja kittens. The toys often feature a kitten dressed in ninja gear while T-shirts and other apparel feature an image and funny caption. There is also a company called Ninja Kitten Toys that sells cat toys.

    Ninja Kitten Pop Culture

    • Ninja kittens are part of the same popular culture explosion as Lolcats. The pictures and videos of animals, such as kittens and cats, have been popular staples of YouTube and other websites for several years. In fact, ninja kittens are an offshoot of the popular brand of Internet comedy.
