Set up the 16mm projector with your films. Position the projector screen close to the projector so the image is small and crisp. Align the digital camcorder in such a way as it is below the image on the screen and you are giving a small angled “up shot” to the screen. Create a tight focus on the projected image with the digital camcorder. Be sure to fill the entire window view of the recorded image.
Record the sound by running a patch audio cord from the projector into the camcorder sound input. Most 16mm projectors have a volume output on the console. You may have to play with the amplitude in order to get a proper sound level.
Transfer the image with a transfer machine. These machines are readily available and are easy to use. Some models are very simple using a right-angled mirror and one adjustable focal lens for the camcorder side of the machine. Other machines have a complete audio\\video console so you can patch the audio and control the input and output volumes. They also have an adjustable output Macro lens for the camcorder side of the machine. You simply set the projector and camcorder up on either side of the machine and let them run. These machines take up very little space and do not require a dark room to operate. In fact ,the entire operation can be accomplished on a small kitchen table.
Editing the final video image can be accomplished with the computer now that you have it digitized. There are a multitude of editing software programs on the market. You can add music or voice comments with a microphone connected to the computer.
