Where Can I Get a Catalog for Ordering VHS Movies?

As technology advances, certain media formats fall out of style. DVDs have replaced VHS tapes as the preferred format among home entertainment buffs. If you still prefer to watch your movies, music videos and TV programs on VHS, these tapes are still out there if you know where to look.
  1. Key to Finding Catalogs

    • Now that fewer new movies and shows are being released on VHS, most available programs are older. The best way to find interesting programs is to search for media companies that specialize in certain genres, such as music, documentary, independent film or horror.

    Classic Movies

    • Movies Unlimited sells classic movies and TV shows in VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray formats. You can view their catalog online (see Resources) or order a print catalog from Movies Unlimited, 3015 Darnell Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154.

    Children's Movies and Shows

    • The Coalition for Quality Children's Media runs the Kids First Media website, from which you can buy various children's programs on VHS. Their catalog is posted at Kids First Media, and it can be searched by title, media company (e.g., Disney) and children's ages (see Resources).

    Documentaries

    • Many documentaries can be streamed online, but VHS versions are harder to pin down. Turner Classic Movies offers a significant number of VHS documentaries for sale. The catalog is posted on its website (see Resources).

    Used Media

    • Because VHS is being phased out, it is easier to locate titles through resources that sell used media. Alibris posts its catalog of used VHS programs on its website (see Resources). Other outlets for used media (e.g., eBay) may provide a wide selection of titles, but there is always a chance that you will receive poor-quality tapes.
