Pick a space that is large enough to set up the projector. This space should allow people enough room to comfortably observe the viewing surface and to avoid the projector.
Select the surface onto which the movie will be projected. This is important because it will dictate where the projector is placed. Make sure the surface will clearly show the movie.
Place the projector safely on the surface that will allow for projection onto the area you have selected. Make sure the projector will not fall or be easily bumped. The projector also should not be in an area will people will be walking in front of it.
Connect the projector to the source that will be playing your video. This can be a DVD player or even a computer that will play a DVD. Most projectors have several options to connect various devices. Choose the input that will allow your DVD player or computer to transmit the movie to the projector as easily as possible and with the least amount of wires.
Connect the projector to an accessible electrical outlet or power source.
Connect speakers to your DVD player or computer for reasonable sound. Since sound is not limited by walls in the outdoors, smaller speakers often work better than larger home theater system speakers. However, built-in speaker systems on a notebook computer are often not the best option sound that is loud enough to be enjoyed.
Start the movie and make any minor adjustments to the sound and picture.
