How many lord of the flies movies were made?

There have been four major film adaptations of William Golding's novel *Lord of the Flies*:

* 1963: The first adaptation, directed by Peter Brook, is considered the most faithful to the book. It was shot on an island in the Caribbean and features a more realistic and gritty approach.

* 1990: A made-for-television film starring Balthazar Getty as Ralph, this adaptation features more emphasis on the psychological aspects of the boys' descent into savagery.

* 1990: A separate made-for-television film produced by the Disney Channel, aimed at a younger audience, was directed by Harry Hook. It takes a more light-hearted approach and diverges significantly from the novel.

* 2017: A new adaptation released by 20th Century Fox, directed by William Golding's son, also named William Golding, who used CGI to create a more realistic and disturbing depiction of the boys' savagery. This version received mixed reviews.

In addition to these, there have been several other film and television productions inspired by the novel.
