What is Frozen the movie based on?

"Frozen" is based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen."

While the movie takes many liberties with the original story, it shares core elements:

* A young girl (Elsa) who has magical powers (ice and snow) that she fears. In the original story, the Snow Queen's icy touch steals hearts and emotions.

* The Snow Queen's evil influence (Elsa's isolation) and the attempt to rescue her friend (Anna). In the original, the Snow Queen kidnaps Kai, and Gerda embarks on a perilous journey to find him.

* The themes of love, bravery, and the power of family. Both stories explore the strength of love and sacrifice.

However, "Frozen" significantly changes the plot, characters, and themes. Some notable differences include:

* Anna's role. In the original, Gerda is much more independent and resourceful. Anna is more dependent and relies heavily on her sister.

* The love story. "Frozen" features a romantic relationship between Anna and Kristoff, which is absent in the original.

* The villain. In "Frozen," the villain is Elsa's own fear and the scheming Prince Hans. In the original, the Snow Queen is a more complex and powerful figure.

While "Frozen" may have borrowed the basic premise of "The Snow Queen," it evolved into a unique story with its own characters, themes, and plot twists.
