Waterford Lakes in Orlando defines both a major center of retail activity and an upscale residential area. Homes in the area tend to be situated among lush landscaping, conservation areas and golf courses, according to area Realtor Jerry LaRose. Retail and entertainment in the area are equally upscale, with major malls and shopping facilities.
The only movie theater open in Waterford Lakes as of April 2011 is the Regal Waterford Lakes 20. With a university and several schools in the area, this theater is packed with younger viewers, especially on the weekends. The theater serves pizza, beer and wine, along with standard movie concessions. The Regal Waterford Lakes 20 offers a Regal Rewards Card, with discounts and free concession items after several uses at a Regal theater. The shopping and food options available nearby mean your movie-going experience can turn into a full evening on the town.
The nearest other movie options are the Touchstar Colonial Promenade 6 on East Colonial Drive in downtown Orlando to the west (approximately 10 miles away), and the Regal Cinemas Oviedo Marketplace 22 to the north on Oviedo Marketplace Boulevard in Oviedo (approximately 13 miles away). The Premier Cinema 16 is also located in downtown Orlando, just west of the Touchstar on East Colonial Drive.
The Oviedo and Waterford Lakes Regal cinemas are the only two that have the IMAX option. The Colonial Promenade 6 is older and less well-equipped, but also less expensive than Waterford Lakes. The Premier Cinema 16 is newer and equipped with digital technology, but is smaller than Waterford Lakes Regal. Its prices are roughly equivalent to those at Waterford Lakes.
