How to Watch Bollywood Films

Bollywood, the nickname for the India-based film industry, has become one of the largest movie-making sources in the world. Bollywood films--which are generally over-the-top, melodramatic musicals--reach an enormous audience, and are made in languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, and Kannada. Given their increasing popularity, you can watch Bollywood films on the Internet dubbed in almost any language, or find a subtitled film to help you learn the language on the screen. Watching a Bollywood film will expand your idea of movies.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a site that will work well with your Internet connection speed. The three main choices are the Bollywood Zone at wetpaint.com, icravebollywood.com, and YouTube. Wetpaint and icravebollywood have movies available for download or streamed online, usually in three parts; this is a good choice if you have an unlimited bandwidth and fast connection. If you don't, opt for one of the many pages on YouTube devoted to Bollywood; films here are available in short chapters of under 10 minutes.

    • 2

Choose a language to view the film in. YouTube offers the widest selection of language with some of the subtitles done by the viewers themselves. Icravebollywood.com has the next easiest selection of language; when you opt to download a movie you will be given a choice of not only quality, but language. Wetpaint.com tends to only maintain the original language of the film.

    • 3

Pick a film by the popularity of the actors. If this is your first time watching a Bollywood movie, choose a popular actor/actress, as their movies will generally be better-made. Bollywood films are star-driven rather than plot-driven. A well known actor/actress will generally guarantee a better first-time viewing experience. Look for names like: Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Hrithik Roshan, who are the undisputed box office kings of Bollywood.

Make ample time to watch the movie. Unlike Hollywood films, Bollywood movies average about three hours in length with an intermission.
