During the Chuunin exams, there are several members applying for the rank from the Sound Village. Dosu, the leader, uses speakers installed in what appear to be forearm guards for his attacks. His partner, Zaku has sound tubes that have been surgically installed in his arms to increase his attacks. They have a third member in their party, Kin Tsuchi, who uses needle projectiles with stunning bells on them. They are the main Sound ninjas Naruto and his team encounter during the exam.
The Sound Five are the bodyguards for the leaders of the Sound Village (see "Leaders"). As the name might suggest, there are five members of the team. Sakon/Ukon, two twins inhabiting the same body, can split up during battle into two nearly identical fighters. The second teammate, Jirobo, uses mostly earth-based and physical attacks. Spider-like Kidomaru has six arms and uses webbing to fight foes. Foul-mouthed Tayuya uses flutes and ranged attacks and summons snake creatures to do her bidding. Finally, Kimimaro is the final member of a savage, but ill-fated tribe of warriors who can use bone as a weapon.
In the Manga series, one of Naruto's teammates, Sasuke, freed a handful of the former Sound Ninja from their imprisonment by the Sound leaders (see "Leaders"). One of them Suigetsu, was an apprentice to another of Sasuke's former foes (and now carries Zabuza's sword in his fallen Sensei's honor) and uses water-based attacks. Karin joined Team Snake because of a crush on Sasukeand has the ability to track ninjas anywhere in the world and heal teammates. Jugo is another member of the team whose abilities trace back to his berserker enzymes, which allow him to fully or partially transform into a monster.
This section contains spoilers. The leader and founder of the village is a former Leaf ninja himself, the wicked Orochimaru. His quest for immortality has destroyed many lives, and his snake attacks are formidable. His second-in-command, Kabuto, has advanced medical knowledge and skills that enable him to attack with surgical precision. Kabuto enters the Chuunin exam as an entrant, with two of his associates. Misumi, who can unlock his joints and manipulate his body in weird ways, and Yoroi who absorbs his enemies' chakra to weaken them.
