How to Center End Credits in FCP

No film is complete without rolling credits. Not only is this the traditional way to end a movie, but it is also the most efficient way to mention every person who helped produce the film. Many credits, especially ones that appear in a single column, are centered in the screen. To help you center your end credits in Final Cut Pro, FCP's text generator includes a center alignment option.

Instructions

    • 1

Open FCP. Click the "Generator Pop-up" menu button at the bottom of the viewer. This button looks like a film strip with the letter "A" in the center. You can also select "Scrolling Text" from the "Video Generators" bin in the "Browser" window.

    • 2

Select "Text" > "Scrolling Text." This activates the scrolling text dialog in the "Viewer's Control" tab.

    • 3

Click the "Control" tab to access the scrolling text options.

    • 4

Select "Center" from the "Alignment" drop-down box. This centers your credits in the screen.

    • 5

Set up the rest of your text attributes, such as the font, font size, color, and kerning with the appropriately labeled controls. You can also select which way your credits will roll by selecting "Up" or "Down" from the direction menu.

    • 6

Type your text in the text box.

    • 7

Click on the "Video" tab to access the video clip with your scrolling credits. Don't worry if you don't see your text. The credits start off-screen and scroll on as the clip progresses.

    • 8

Mark an "In" and "Out" point by positioning the timeline indicator and pressing the "Mark In" or "Mark Out" button. Alternately, you can press "I" or "O" on your keyboard.

    • 9

Mark an "In" point in your timeline after you close the scene and insert your scrolling text. The credits will now scroll across the center of the screen.
