How to Get a Film on IMDb

The Internet Movie Database, or IMDb, contains an extensive and ever-growing compilation of information on films, television series and video games. Not only does it provide instant access to cast, crew, story synopsis, box office and technical information, it also allows users to make comments and add ratings to each film, allowing the site uses to generate its top 250 list. Getting a film on IMDb is not a difficult task, but it is an important one to many filmmakers.

      Register with IMDb. You will need to provide a valid email address, year of birth and ZIP code.

      Go to your email account, open the message from IMDb, then click on the link. This will take you to a Web page where you can complete your registration verification.

      Enter the words that you see into the text box and click "Submit." Once you have been verified, return to the IMDb home page.

      Click the "Community" tab on the toolbar and select "Contributor Zone."

      Click the "New Title Guide/Form" link. This will open the "Adding a New Title" form.

      Click on the "Eligibility: General Public Interest" link to make sure your film meets the qualifications. Generally, any film that is not intended for widespread public release or has not been accepted and shown at a reputable film festival is not eligible.

      Complete the online form. Wait for the editors to review your request. They will notify you of their decision by email.
