He was hired by Michael Balcon, a producer who saw potential in Hitchcock's artistic talents. While working on title cards, Hitchcock was constantly observing the film production process and quickly learned about film making. He started working his way up the ranks, eventually becoming a scriptwriter and assistant director.
It was during this time that Hitchcock made his directorial debut in 1925 with the silent film "The Pleasure Garden." His early films were mostly thrillers and suspenseful dramas, showcasing the elements of suspense that would later become his trademark.
