When did people start going to the cinema?

The first public screening of motion pictures took place in Paris on 28 December 1895 by the Lumière brothers. The Cinematograph, which functioned simultaneously as camera, developer and projector, was used to screen ten short documentary-style films. People could pay a small fee to watch the short films inside the Grand Café as part of a brief variety show.
