When were globes made?
Globes have been around for centuries, with their origins dating back to Ancient Greece. It is believed that the first known globe was created around 150 BC by the Greek astronomer Crates of Mallus. The globe showed the landmasses known to the Greeks at the time, centered around the Mediterranean Sea. Over the following centuries, the design and accuracy of globes steadily improved as more geographical knowledge was gained. By the end of the 18th century, globes of the Earth reached a high level of detail and began to incorporate geographical discoveries from around the world. Today, globes remain important educational and instructional tools for understanding and visualizing the planet's topography and geographical features.
