Go to the red carpet. This is entirely an unconventional way to watch the Golden Globe Awards, but also an amazing experience. You can begin to line up in the stands a couple of days before the awards in January. Bring a portable television, sit in the stands, and wait for your favorite TV and movie stars to arrive. You'll be able to see them up close and personal. Because this event does not sell tickets, this is the closest you will get to being at the awards.
Watch them live on NBC. NBC has a long-standing contract to carry the awards show each year. Check tvguide.com or NBC.com for the exact time and date.
Check out the pre-show on E! or the TV Guide channel. If you don't make it to the actual awards and hang outside to see the red carpet, then you must check out the pre-show for the latest information on who is dating who and most importantly, what everyone is wearing.
Record the show using Tivo or your DVR device. Not only will you get to zoom through the commercials if you watch the awards show later, you will also get to rewind and replay the greatest speeches and moments from the night. Also you can breeze by some of the more dreadful categories or musical productions if it isn't quite your cup of tea.
Print out a guide from hfpa.org or another entertainment site, which lists the categories and their nominees. Then you'll be able to follow along and test your skills against the Hollywood Foreign Press, which is the group who votes on the Golden Globes.
