When does a movie have to come out get nominated for the Academy Awards?

A movie must be released in the United States by December 31st of the previous year to be eligible for nomination at the Academy Awards. For example, a movie that was released in December of 2022 would be eligible for consideration at the 2023 Academy Awards.
