What awards did Johann Sebastian Bach receive?

Although Johann Sebastian Bach was one of the most influential and renowned composers of the Baroque period, he did not receive any formal awards or prizes during his lifetime. Musicians were recognized for their work at the time through positions and appointments, such as court musician, conductor, and church organist.

Bach held prestigious positions throughout his career, including Cantor of the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig and Court Composer for the Prince of Anhalt-Köthen. These roles demonstrated the high esteem in which he was held by his contemporaries. However, the concept of awarding prizes for musical achievements was less prevalent during Bach's time compared to later periods in musical history.
