What are the rules of mask work?

1. Safety First. Masks and rituals should be designed and performed in a way that ensures the physical and psychological safety of participants.

 

2. Informed Consent. Participants must be informed about the nature and purpose of the mask work, and must give their consent to participate.

 

3. Appropriate Setting. Mask work should be conducted in a safe, private, and respectful setting that is conducive to the exploration of personal and collective unconscious material.

 

4. Confidentiality. What is shared in the context of mask work should be kept confidential, unless there are safety concerns that require disclosure.

 

5. Respect. Participants should treat each other with respect, and honor the individual experiences and perspectives of each person.

 

6. Clear Boundaries. Clear boundaries must be established and maintained, both physically and emotionally.

 

7. Grounding and Integration. Participants should have the opportunity to ground and integrate their experiences before leaving the ritual space.

 

8. Debriefing. After the ritual, there should be an opportunity for participants to discuss and reflect on their experiences, and to receive support if needed.

 

9. Trained Facilitators. Mask work should be facilitated by trained and experienced individuals who have a deep understanding of the nature and implications of mask work.
