Did Leonard digges invent the telescope?

Leonard Digges did not invent the telescope. He did write about lenses in 1572, describing the use of two lenses arranged in a tube. However, there is no evidence that he actually made a telescope. The first person credited with making a telescope is Hans Lippershey, a spectacle-maker from the Netherlands, who filed for a patent on the device in 1608.
