When did the word surreal become popular?

The word "surreal" was first used by French writer Guillaume Apollinaire in 1917 in the preface to his play Les mamelles de Tirésias. It was initially used to describe a new artistic movement that sought to create fantastic, dreamlike imagery and to explore the unconscious mind. After World War I, surrealism became associated with the works of artists such as Salvador Dali, René Magritte, and Max Ernst, and it grew to become one of the most influential art movements of the 20th century.
